Public viewings are normally held on the 4th Friday of the month, except for May, June and July, as the evenings are too light. The dates for the 2020-21 season are shown below.
2020 Public Viewing Dates
- All public viewing dates in 2020 and early 2021 have had to be cancelled
- There are no public viewings from May – July
If the weather is adverse, the event may be cancelled. A decision will be made at midday on the Friday, and it is highly recommended that members of the public phone the Reserve before it closes to find out if the session is on or not.
It is advised to bring warm clothing as only one person at a time can view through the telescope. Torches with some form of red filter are also recommended, as is suitable footwear.
Session start times will vary through the year depending when it gets dark.
Please contact the Reserve for times.
A visit to the observatory is a memorable experience for young and old alike. Take out a membership of Monkton Nature Reserve and you can attend additional impromptu viewings FREE of charge.
